Thanks to the San Francisco-Oakland-San Jose market falling from TV market six to eight, Houston is now market number seven.

Last year, Houston moved up from market 10 to eight.

"Other than proving the point that Houston is a growing market, I’m not sure this changes anything on TV pricing," Chris Caldwell of advertising firm Briggs & Caldwell told mikemcguff.com back in 2016. "So, yes, bragging rights are probably the biggest stake. When Houston went from #11 to #10 a few years ago, stations told us that they would be on more national buys (advertisers who target top ten markets)…thereby making inventory tighter, and driving up rates. The change in rank is probably more of an impact to news talent who are constantly trying to upgrade the size market for which they report.

If you work in Houston TV news...time to ask for more money. LOL.

As for the rest of Texas TV:

Dallas-Ft. Worth holds steady at 5.
San Antonio remained at 31.
Austin stays at 39.
Harlingen-Weslaco-Brownsville-McAllen holds strong at 84.
Waco-Temple-Killeen-Bryan jumps up one spot to market 86.
El Paso (Las Cruces) falls one spot to 93.
Corpus Christi and Joe Gazin hold steady at 128.
Amarillo remains at 131.
Beaumont-Port Arthur drops one spot to 142.
Wichita Falls & Lawton drops one spot to 149.
Lubbock holds at 145.
Odessa-Midland drops a spot to 144.
Sherman-Ada moves up two spots to 160.
Abilene-Sweetwater holds steady at 165.
Laredo holds at 184.
Victoria remains at 203.
