Galena Park, Texas
- In a specially called meeting on Saturday June 25, 2016, the mayor and city commissioners will meet behind closed doors to discuss and take possible action in the appointment of Edward J. Mata as Chief of Police.

Mata, a former Galena Park police officer retired from the department in 2014.

On June 9, 2016 in a specially called meeting, the mayor and city commission members met behind closed doors to discuss and demoted Jonathan M. Rader who had been the chief of police since 2012.

Since the police department is covered by civil service and the chief was promoted to the position, he will return to his previous rank and pay.

Interestingly, in 2011 a charge of gender discrimination was filed with the EEOC by a female officer against the Galena Park Police Department.  In the complaint, among other things, it states that in a taped conversation, Eddie Mata reverently bragged about “the Blue Code” and treating women like sexual objects.  Also in the recording, Mata admitted to having sex with a seventeen (17) year old student who volunteered at the Galena Park Police Department through the Galena Park High School’s work force.

According to the EEOC complaint, no action was taken against Mata.

17 yrs old is legal bait in Texas.

According to a former Galena Park employee, Mata's only qualification for the position is that he is Hispanic and friends with the mayor.

Other than that, he couldn't even pass the department's sergeant's exam. His retirement was more of a resignation because he isn't old enough to retire.

After leaving Galena Park he moved to Colorado but later returned and wanted his old job back with the department but his request was denied.

At the present time he is a police officer with the Katy Independant School Distric.

This is political pay back Ed Mata and Newly reinstated Officer Torres were both knocking doors campaiging for the present Commission.

I heard that Torres was terminated last year for a second violation of looking at pornography while at work.

I suppose since the mayor's son was arrested and charged with looking at child porn, it's okay for her to reinstate a police officer that likes looking too.
